How can you make that claim?! April 1, 2008, 8:55 am

You said "The honor of the grand game we know has taken a back seat to the high stakes of $7 million purses". How can you make that claim? How do you know what was happening on the course before boom mics and high-powered cameras?

Tiger and his temper April 1, 2008, 8:52 am

It seems strange to me that the young man who is arguably the most skilled golfer I have ever watched has the self-discipline to train himself to this point yet lacks the motivation to do the same with his self-serving outbursts.
He is not infallible and should not behave in a manner that implies he thinks he should be. With all the adoration that the TV broadcasters demonstrate while fawning over him even when he is six strokes off the lead it is possible that he has lost some of his perspective.
The man is a fine player and can deport himself admirably. I wish he would more often when on camera.

Thank you for the article on Tiger's on course behavior. I agree with the editor's stance on a player's on-course demeaner. Go ahead and kick the unruly fan off the course and take away the pass of the violating press member, but let's hold the players to a higher regard. As a father of a freshman high school golfer, I just had the experience of talking to my son about losing his cool during a practice round. His loss of emotional control lead to the loss of control of his game. I consciously make an effort to keep myself in check on the course and would value and appreciate those who are highly promoted publically to do the same. I enjoy watching Tiger's mastery of the game of golf but I think there is something lost in the connection to him as a person because of this issue.

this is the one place on the golf course where tiger show's he is still human. cut him some slack! obviously we all would prefer our heroes be perfect he'll do better at this as he ages. just be satisfied with getting to watch him in his prime.

Tiger ain't the Saint April 1, 2008, 8:48 am

Do you really believe that everybody has to be perfect just because you think they should - How naive can you be - yes golf is a better lifestyle than most, but you still lose your temper ( you never ever say a bad word or thow a club), gamble (a nassau is a gambling game) drink beer (ever seen a beverage cart- do you close your kids eyes when they drive by?)
get off of the high horse.
You can't quit talking about how super human he is, then you can't quit talking about how human he is. make up your minds!

Bob: To err is human. To at least apologize to the women and children who heard you use foul language = a gentleman. Apparently, Tiger Woods is no gentleman.

Tiger's "Talk" April 1, 2008, 8:48 am

Let me put it this way. We all swear at some point or another while were on the job. Usually it's because of the actions of some moron that doesn't know better. The only difference is we're not under a microscope like he is . I'm surprised he hasn't been "mic'd up" while in the bathroom.

The Legends and Tiger April 1, 2008, 8:43 am

by Jay Dempsey
This article would make you believe that Jack was the most gracious golfer alive to fans. Not true. Maybe Jacobsen (Peter), Zoeller, Sluman among others. Similarly, Arnie himself mentioned how some of these "Legends" treated him like crap. Refered to him as "Fella", never addressed by name.
Sure, Tiger let's an occasional blurt out, so do I. There isn't another golfer alive or dead that has been under the microscope, periscope, satellite surveillance that he has endured. He's done so quite well and ought to be recognized for that, the TW foundation, and countless other positives he brings to the game. If your looking for the second coming wearing red on Sunday, change the channel and watch another sport for your perfect role models. When you find that channel, please let me know what it is!

Chip, I disagree with you. To infer that men like Jack and Gary played the game with less passion than Tiger, is just off the mark. Tiger is "of" the game, not "above" the game. He should know this by now, and conduct himself accordingly. He needs to apply his game discipline to his conduct and language. To do less, simply coarsens him, and detracts from his stature.
