Do you think if the majority of fans carried cell phone cameras and/or digital cameras like they do today, someone might have caught a shot of Sam or Bryan "out of character."
I'm not condoning Tiger's profanity, but let's face it ... it is a different era and he's on stage 24/7.

Unsuitable behavior April 1, 2008, 8:42 am

I agree that such as swearing and outbursts have no place on the golf course. The touring pros including Tiger must know they set an example and should show better behavior. Also what gets me .. is the spitting in public by these same pros- this should not be tolerated..

Your editorial is right on. One measure of a man is grace under pressure. Tiger has room to improve here if he chooses to do so.

Tiger swearing on the course April 1, 2008, 8:38 am

Get a life.
I recall Fred Couples being caught on TV saying to a spectator who was laughing at Fred's bad lie, "That's real f***ing funny, isn't it?", and yet where was the outrage then?
Every week, Tiger and the other pros have to deal with knucklehead photographers, whether pro or amateur, who somehow fail to acknowledge that you're not supposed to photograph the players during their swing, but they try to, anyway.
If the photographers are too thick-headed to figure out what any of us knows, and what I'm sure they're told every week, then they SHOULD get yelled at.

you guys are a real trip. You have convenient memories. Arnold Palmer swore on the course regularly. So did Fred Couples and Fuzzy Zeoller. Thre are a number of others but you can't seem to recall those or you just don't want to. Like others who are constantly watched, Tiger will be viewed as human with human flaws. Not sure what you're looking for from this guy. He has more media people and spectators than anyone else in the game. Each error or flaw he displays is magnified 100 times over.

I've been marshalling a long time and these morons don't get it. You want a picture that bad you do it on pro-am day. Tiger is human like the rest of us and there's swearing in every sport, don't kid yourself. These guys don't sit on a bench and get paid big money. They have to produce week in and week out. Bad three days, bad money. You have a low batting average you still get paid your big bucks. Tigers caddie Steve should've confronted the bastard.

The only reason we consistently hear Tiger cussing is every camera on the course is usually up his nose. If you don't like it keep your camera's out of his face and stop writing about him. The reason you don't hear the other's cussing is they aren't in contention at every tournament as Tiger and the interest not as great but they also cuss and swear because I have been to many tournaments and witnessed it first hand. GO TIGER GO.......

I sure Tiger is not the only one who swears but when they show him 95% of the time on a two hour golf show you are bound to get something. Personally I wish he would stop the fist pump and the ugly face after every win. I know he should be happy to win but get rid of the ugly face!!!

I hope that the author didn't get paid to write this tripe! Obviously, he has never played a sport competitivly. That Tiger has so much 'passion' for the Game is one of his most appealling traits! I feel sorry for this writer's children if they are going to be raised in a "bubble"! Get a Life!

TIGER & THE LEGENDS April 1, 2008, 8:31 am

Every era, every segment of business, and certainly every sport has its imperfect people. Blasting Tiger for using colorful language is like bashing Bill Clinton for being a womanizing president - not that two wrongs make a right - but, Bill is by FAR not the first president to wander.
As for the comment in the article about Tiger 'worrying about the integrity of Jack, Arnie, etc...' All those guys used to walk the course and smoke - drink before, during and after a round - and I've PERSONALLY heard Jack cuss like a sailor...at his home course (Muirfield Village)...in front of families of all ages - one particular comment was on the practice range - standing over a sandtrap, he yelled -'we gotta change this G--damned sand before next year - this is as shi**y as it gets!'
Ah - The Legends.
