Wolfdancer Golf Club in Lost Pines pays homage to the Tonkawa tribe of central Texas, who lived on this dramatic land -- dotted with pecan trees, cedar elms and oaks with the Colorado River flowing along its final holes. The fairways are generous, the terrain beautiful and the greens remind one of Donald Ross. This is fun, challenging golf in an awesome location southeast of Austin.

Atlanta golfers are delighted to see an old favorite, Cherokee Run Golf Club, return to its previous form, even if that means one of the area's toughest tests is as hard, fast and challenging as designer Arnold Palmer envisioned. After Cherokee Run was rescued from bankruptcy in 2010 by the city of Conyers and closed down for restoration, the course has regained its luster, producing rave reviews.

With five tees, Tiburon Golf Club provides a great golf experience for all levels. And just because Gold is used for Greg Norman's annual "Shootout" on the PGA Tour, doesn't mean it's the best course to play. It just depends on what your game is all about. If you like to think your way around and be challenged by some tight, tricky placements, then Black might be your best bet. Our advice: Play them both.

You probably picked Mesquite to avoid the crowds and chaos of Las Vegas, and the front nine at Conestoga Golf Club certainly has that middle-of-nowhere feel. Simply put, you won't find a course like this anywhere near home. With a couple of strong candidates to be the signature hole from the entire area, you'd be silly to skip it.
