Could Mike Huckabee, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama or other top candidates replace Tim Finchem as PGA Tour boss?
Less than a year from the 2008 U.S. Presidential elections, one thing is very clear - there will be a lot of losers by the time it's over. Of course, one could say there are already a lot of losers in the presidential field.
But the fact is, there will be several experienced candidates looking for a new challenge once America decides who will lead it into the second decade of the century. And while PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem's job appears safe for the moment, he's just one rude remark to Tiger Woods away from getting a severance check.
So while unlikely, here's going with the premise that Finchem gets chased away from the PGA Tour by an angry, torch-bearing mob, ala Frankenstein. If that happens, the PGA Tour would have a boatload of failed presidential candidates to choose from. Here's a look at some of the candidates for Finchem's job and what they'd bring to the table for PGA Tour:
Mike Huckabee: Tithing will become a key element in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Hillary Clinton: Rush Limbaugh will never play golf again.
Fred Thompson: Will announce that his wife will be the new trophy for the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Will wander off and never be heard from again.
Barack Obama: Will announce that everything will remain status quo, but sound fantastic when announcing it.
Rudy
Giuliani: The Dubai Classic will be replaced with the "War on Dubai."
Al Gore: Will spend his entire term replacing divots.
Ron Paul: Entire PGA rulebook will be scrapped and players will be free to do whatever they want while paying no taxes on anything. Will move PGA Tour headquarters to the hills of Idaho.
John Edwards: Everyone on the tour will be required to have great hair and health coverage.
Mitt Romney: Everyone on tour will be required to have great hair, but then he'll change his mind and say that he had an epiphany and that having great hair isn't something he believes anymore.
Of course, there will be one more politician looking for work following the 2008 elections and who needs to be given consideration.
George W. Bush: Will delegate most PGA Tour responsibilities to Vice-Commissioner Dick Cheney, who will use extraordinary rendition on the entire European Ryder Cup team to help ensure a U.S. win.

As part of her continuing "Swing Essentials" series on building a fundamental golf swing, LPGA Golf Instructor Karen Palacios-Jansen focuses on how to start the swing. To be a consistent ball striker, you should strive to swing with a square clubface at all times. Golf is a hard enough game hitting the ball straight, let alone fighting an open or closed clubface at impact, she writes.
