I agree that the LPGA and women's tennis are the only two sports where women put on a spectacular show of talent and are loaded with superstars. I love watching both sports (both the men and the women). The comment that the LPGA website is lame is absolutely true. The LPGA should post all the same stats and money list rankings as the PGA site. Geez, my local golf league has a site that shows more stats than you can find on the LPGA site. There is NO EXCUSE for this missed opportunity to reach out the fans. The commish has really dropped the ball on this one. We lost our local LPGA tournament when Wendys pulled the plug after hitting an economic down-turn.
I've heard that the LPGA is suffering partly due to the dominance of foreign players. This is a shame because most of the Asian and Latin players have much tighter bodies than the heavy American women, and they Laugh and Smile. I enjoy watching all of the players (except Wie and Hurst). The LPGA needs to do a MUCH better job of Marketing. But, maybe the rumors are correct that the American viewing public won't watch unless an American player is near the lead. This approach to broadcasting completely ruins the coverage of the Olympics when we miss seeing the foreign superstars competing for medals in favor of watching an American finish in 18th place. When I was a kid, ABC used to focus on the COMPETITION of the event, regardless of the nationality of the performance, but nowadays it seems that TV focuses on the Americans and barely gives us a peek at the foreign stars. Promote ALL of the stars and build a fan base ... rather than putting ALL of your eggs into the basket of Gulbis & Paula Creamer & Morgan Pressel. They don't have the game to carry the entire Tour. Like it or not, the superstars of the LPGA come from Sweden, Mexico, Korea, Norway and Japan. Tennis is fighting the same battle of not having many American superstars. Embrace it instead of fighting it.

You state in your latest editorial.
"That's jumping the gun to the same decree as the girl who has one date with a dude telling her friends she's going to marry him."
My wife and I had our first date in 1963. When she got home, she told her mother she was going to marry me.
We were married in 1967.
We are still married.

Chris:
You are so right .. I, actually, prefer watching LPGA ( went to both tournaments in Hawaii ) but you can see that it is anm organization that really needs some leadership and marketing. Just go to their website and you can see how primitive it is.
I think LPGA is a very marketable product .. needs the right leadership.

I love watching Women's Golf on television, especially watching Lorena play. But when you tune into shows like GOlf Central who obviously don't care about women's golf at all, it gets exasperating. They will devote 55 minutes to men's golf and their silly side stories, but only 5 minutes to women's golf. Then there are the commentators who cover the LPGA and haven't a clue of what's going on. They have their favorite playes and aren't afraid to let you know who they are. You should watch the LPGA coverage sometime and listen to their silly remarks. I hope we don't have to hear any more from Judy Rainkin on how much better Annika is. Lorena has earned her position and respect, even though she only won one major. She plays exceptional golf and is a joy to watch. To devote 1 big hour to the LPGA on television is shameful. We would like to see more coverage. Lorena is number 1 and the news media should be treating her as such.

I'm not sure things are as dire as you made them out to be. The PGA does well with its corporate gravy train, but how good are the TV ratings if Tiger is off pushing a stroller and not on the screen. I mean I like the little guy and all, but when was the last time you hurried home saying: "Boy- this last round is going to be great with Funk putting on one of his patented charges."
The women have a good product and will solidify a pretty good sched. over the next few years I think. I think with young women like Morgan and Paula as ambassadors (along with Lorena and the international contingent), they will be ok. I mean a lot less millionaires playing, but hopefully most of them can make a buck. ducks (63 year old male)
