Orchards Golf Course
About
The Orchards Golf Club in Belleville offers an 18-hole championship course designed by Belleville native and former Masters winner Bob Goalby. With four sets of tees, the course appeals to a wide range of skill levels. The layout starts out with a gentler front nine where you won’t find any doglegs on the first six holes but as you move towards the back nine, the course gets more challenging. The golf course has an interesting and diverse mix of holes, with the seventh through the 14th being a particularly notable stretch. You’ll have to contend with abundant out-of-bounds and both water and sand come into play often. In addition to the golf course, the Orchards G.C. boasts a multi-level driving range as well as a large practice putting green with a sand bunker.

Poor turf conditions for the price
40 dollars was high for the turf conditions. Several greens had damage which is surprising for the age of the course. Playable but less than expected for this time of year. Would only play again for lower rate
Bad Greens
Greens were in horrible shape. Big pot marks and places with no grass at all. 4 groups of 3 in front taking way too much time. They really need a Marshall out there to speed up the pace. Don't think I'll go back.
Greens were horrible
Fairways were 75% which with all the rain not bad. Several greens were lost and others were half gone. If this course was smart they would change grass type for greens. 2nd time I have run into this issue with this course. The course charged 37$ on golf now it should be 20$ at most.
Still room to be a great course
My daughter played and called this her home course when on the local high school team. It has been through a lot in the last few years. The fairways have been through tough times, getting better. The greens in the last few years were good if not great. This visit however, I'm sorry to say they left a bad taste in our mouth. Many of the greens needed desperate attention.
Been to many different courses costing less with better conditions.
I will be returning, hoping for better.
Course needs work
Have played the course several times and have always enjoyed it. However playing yesterday the greens and tee boxes were disappointing and in poor shape. Hopefully next time will be better.
Review
Hadn't played this course since they revamped holes 8, 9, 16 and 17.. Course was in good shape but some fairways had bare spots and this course has had that issue for years. Greens were in great shape.
Fairways still need work.
The greens are in decent shape and I like the course layout but the fairways have many dead zones. We have had some wet weather but...
Cart paths are awful. We were cart path only and got to see every pothole in the paths. Carts are really nice though.
Getting better
I have played the Orchards for more than 20 years. A few years ago, it went on a downhill slide. But it's obvious that the management has put both time and money into making the Orchards a really nice course once again - especially for the money. It's a hike for me to get there but this course remains on my play list and if you want to play from the tips, good luck!
follow the water
All in all the majority of the course was fine. There were a Lot of dead spots in the fairways from water laying. I know they had flash flooding in December....but if they follow the way the water drains, they could very easily trench 10 to 12 inches deep and fill them with rock, then cover with dirt and sod or seed it would eliminate the same problem in the future. In the mean time all of those areas should be marked ground under repair. We are some of the rate players that play by the rules of golf....so if it's not marked we play out of it. Probably costing us 3 strokes per round.thank you
Course has come a long way
In the past during the summer the greens would always get burnt out, which would affect play all the way into the next spring, but you can tell the greens have been well kept and alive. The fairways are still dormant but they are in playable shape. I don't mind a few spots here and there on a golf course when you know that they are working to improve it. This course has improved greatly and is on its way back to being a terrific option in our area.
Great Golf Course
It was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Getting Better
Very long if played from back tees. Challenging variety of holes. Noticed many improvements taking place. Greens healed nicely after airation.
Typical Orchards
I was a single, so pace of play was really bad. As expected the course was typical conditions for the Orchards. Thin fairways with several areas under repair. I had to bump balls all day that were in center of fairway with little grass or dirt for a lie. The greens were "cross cut", ( top dressed and sandy) not sure that's accurate label, but they were thin and chewed up as usual. Something positive, hmm... sand traps were ok. Same old Orchards year after year!!!! Frustrating !!!
Fair test and good playabiliy
Course was very playable to golfers of all levels and was well manicured except for one or two patchy fairways.
Nice course- worth the trip
The course was in great shape, even with the greens ariated. It's been a couple years since I've played but will definitely go back soon.
Nice improvements
I had not played this course for a couple of months and was very pleased with the work on the cart paths. Fairways and greens were in much better shape and pace of play was reasonable. Overall a much improved experience over my round in July. Looking forward to coming back soon.
Cost friendly with tight shots.
My group enjoyed this cours, pretty well taken care of by a friendly staff. Nice fairways, a few spots needed some work. Greens were very well taken care of. Will play again.
Fairways are terrible
38.00 Not a good value. Fairways are in terrible shape. Tee boxes needed cut. Greens were decent and receptive.
Regular
I play here monthly and generally come away with a good golf experience for the money. Greens are in good shape and won't be what you're unhappy with after the round. Many holes with good character that require you to hit some golf shots. Only negative is a few fairways are under work and in need of some love; about four. Will certainly be returning in the future.
Course is in bad shape
I used to play the Orchards a lot. It had been a few years. I had fond memories of it and was looking forward to playing it again. Unfortunately it was not the experience I was hoping for. I'm not sure what it was due to but the course is in really bad shape. A majority of the fairways were closed off due to an overwhelming amount of flooding. The drainage system is not working at all. Many of my drives had to be moved even though they were right down the middle. Grass was even non existent on some of the fairways. Also, the cart paths were riddled with potholes. There were so many that it stuck out in my head the next day. This course needs to be closed until they can bring it back to life. It simply is not worth playing right now, especially at $44.00 a round (weekend). I like the people who work there and run it. For their sake I hope it corrected sooner than later.
