Course Reviews

Course Name Pearl Heights Golf Course
Location Bei Hai, Taiwan
Comments from Dave Schmertz, Colleyville, Texas, USA
This is a very good course (for Taiwan) set several hundred feet up overlooking the ocean on the north coast. The wind is always quite strong which makes for some interesting approach shots. After Sunrise GC and Ta Hsi GC, this is probably #3 in Taiwan. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to get there from dow ntown Taipei. The best way to get there is through Tam Shui, not through Keelung nor over Yang Mi Shan as some taxi drivers will suggest.

Comments from Jeff Lin, Taipei, Taiwan
The ccourse at Pearl Heights was laid out by Andy North, a two-time US Open winner. With the sea on one side and mountains on the other, it boasts some very scenic holes, although the ocean does not really come into play except maybe on the par three 2nd. A number of holes feature alternating greens, creating variety for regular visitors. Wind is defintely a factor here and can seriously damage your golf swing. The course is very well maintained by local standards, but like other popular courses in Taiwan it is overplayed. Expect a five hour round at weekends. The club house serves wholesome and inexpensive food.
