Great Shape!
Course was in great shape. Not a particularly exciting course, but for the cost around the DC area, its a great value for the shape it is in. Will definitely play there again.
On-Course Staff were awful
Golf was good, course in great shape. Rangers were all over us on the back nine for some reason. We tee’d off at 1:40 and finished at 6:00, 4 hour and 20 minute round. We had to wait constantly on the front 9 as there were several slow groups in front of us. They all left after the front.
Regardless, the behavior of the rangers on the back nine, who, for whatever reason, felt it was their duty to hound us and ruin the pace for our group. So much so, that I’d prefer to wait a while before I play there again.
First, I would like to thank you for your review and giving us a 4-star rating despite having an issue with our marshals. Algonkian, along with most other golf courses, has seen an incredible amount of play over the last several years as the golf industry has exploded in popularity. With this boom, we have seen a record number of rounds as well as many new golfers playing the course. The negative to this is that sometimes pace of play can be an issue. Our marshals are trained to monitor pace of play and intervene, when necessary, which can include asking a group to pick up their pace if they’re playing slower than the set pace.
However, when enforcing pace of play, our marshals are trained to do this in the friendliest and most professional manner possible. In no way should any player ever feel that an employee or volunteer of Algonkian Golf Course is “hounding” or “ruining” their round or experience. As the golf course manager, I do not take a rating of “Poor” under the Friendliness category lightly and would like to speak with you further about this situation. As a NOVA Parks golf course, we strive to provide the best experience for our customers.
If you would like to discuss this further, please give me a call at 703-450-4655 ext. 105.

Excellent Conditions
Don't play often here. Today, course was in great shape, including tee, fairways, and greens. Feels like a pretty long course, even from the whites. The first cut of rough is pretty darn thick, and with recent rain combined with early morning sprinklers was pretty challenging. Traps all appeared to be nicely groomed as well. With both a military and senior discount, course value was strong. The club house attendant and both starters were very nice and engaging. A great day on the links.
Richard, thank you so much for your review! We are very grateful to have earned a 5-star rating!
Thank you for your review. We appreciate and value your feedback!
Paid for 18, was only allowed 9
So I hope to try this course again when it’s a bit drier, everything was water logged when I played. However, I paid for 18 holes on the golf now app and was only allowed to play 9, but was still charged for 18 and had to pay a separate charge for the cart. The staff were very friendly, but still frustrated that I paid $80 for 9 holes and a cart.
We are disappointed to learn of your experience. Please contact the Golf Course Manager at 703-450-4655 ext. 105 to discuss your experience.
Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback.
The leaves are everywhere this time of year
I usually enjoy playing Algonkian because it has a moderately challenging layout, but they keep most of the areas under the trees mowed. This makes it easy to find your ball and keeps the pace of play moving. However, today it was windy and leaves were blowing everywhere. I lost three balls just from the leaves and several members of my foursome lost even more.
Absolutely loved it
This is defies one of my personal top three courses that I have played. The settings were beautiful, the grass perfectly cut and the deer walking the course was cool to see too. I am definitely coming back to this little gem. :)
Good conditions, but too crowded
The course conditions were good and it’s flat so walking friendly for the most part. The course was packed and the pace of play terrible. Took almost 3 hours to finish the front 9. The threesome in front of me booked at 2:30, the 2:40 group never showed up and I was in a foursome at 2:50. I waited for the threesome at every hole but they weren’t bad. They waited for group ahead of them. All carts have to be in by 6:15pm which is very odd rule for a northern Virginian public course. I’ve played most of them. The starter took my cart at 10th hole and I had to use their pull cart. I finished 14th before it was too dark. No refund. Reserve much earlier in the day if weather is nice and you’re playing on a weekend or federal holiday.
Slow Pace and sub par maintenance
First time playing here but was a fair price on GolfNow. Take this review with a grain of salt if you want but it’s honest. I went on Columbus Day so maybe it was more packed than usual, but still the started could have helped out by grouping better or delaying tee boxes. Pace of play (sadly) gets an F. Was waiting 5-10 mins each hole. The course has a lot potential. Again not sure if it was the day or what but the fairways were like roughs and the roughs were like weeds. This is unfortunately for me a “you get what you pay for” municipal experience. It’s not for me. I’ll stick to the member courses.
Miserable Course Conditions
First off. Was not notified the back nine was closed until the turn. The staff was extremely rude at the end of the round after I brought the cart to the parking lot as I saw multiple carts parked next to cars. Let’s get to the course. Every green was pretty much a bunker. Just drifts of sand and aeration. Now if I paid 20-30 dollars for this I wouldn’t care. But 46 dollars for a 3:40 tee time with these conditions is an absolute disgrace. Will never come here again.
We apologize we were not able to meet your expectations and your feedback will be shared with the team.. In the future, if you are unsatisfied with your experience at any course we recommend reaching out to the manager first for a solution instead of posting negative reviews in multiple locations.
Great Value
Definitely one of the best value courses in northern VA. Conditions vary and rain does soak the course a bit but it’s well maintained and forgiving.
Very nice course
Very flat, but nice course. Green is above average speed, but great condition. Very relaxing env for a county course. Course mgnt is key to low scoring
Thank you for your review! We take pride in providing great course conditions at an affordable rate for everyone. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your round at Algonkian and we hope to see you again soon!
