Flat and opened course
My first time golfing at Algonkian and noticed immediately that they had a friendly staff, military discount and nice course for winter conditions/ temperature. Plenty of deer running around the course. Very hard to lose a ball it's a flat wide opened course along the Potomac River. But the ground was kind of marshy.

Good conditions
A little wet, the pace was a little slow but ranger talked the group on front, then we finished in 4.5 hours. Good experience.

Nice winter option
For mid-January, the course was in very nice shape. Everything was mowed down, smooth and clean. It was cart paths only which was appropriate. Every drive came up with mud, but my shoes were clean after the round. Damp but not sloppy. Greens putted well. Great value.

Avoid this course at all costs
This course is not well kept. Greens and fairways in horrible condition. Drainage on course was terrible. Pace of play was AWFUL. Called the club house multiple times and still ended up playing a 5 hour round with waiting to hit shots on every hole. Avoid at all costs.
We are very disappointed to hear about your experience and your thoughts on course conditions. We take pride in providing great course conditions and a great experience. Last week (9/11-9/14), aerification of the greens and tees was completed which is why conditions on the greens were less than ideal. We also have picked up several inches of rain in the past week as well as on Sunday (9/17), which is the date you played your round. We are not making excuses for this, however, we are providing a reasoning as to why course conditions may have not have been up to your standard. As far as pace of play, we would like to hear from you what happened so we can improve our operation. Great value
Excellent conditions both fairways and greens. Excellent wildlife interaction. Pace of play among the best in Fairfax County. Our round was 4 hours and 20 minutes with carts, and we had a beginner.

Deer season
Such a beautiful course to play and its so peaceful that the deer are even friendly. Beautiful landscape and the course is well maintained

Great Value
Course is in great shape. Very few bare patches. Greens and fairways are slow but very consistent.

We have seen several heavy thunderstorms during the first part of July which has slowed down the greens and fairways a bit, but a stretch of dry weather will get us firm and fast once again.
