Great layout, easy to get to but....
This was my first time playing here since around '99-'00 .The times I played back then were on golf packages and in the Fall/Spring so the course was maintained better. I've always loved the layout and the condition but when you play some of these courses in the off season sometimes you run into maintenance issues. Really, as far as playing, the only issue I had was none of the bunkers were raked. Other than that, given the heat that we've had in NC this summer, it's in very good shape. One thing that I noticed, and this is the case on a lot of courses now. is the condition of the cart paths. There were many times I had to come to a complete stop to be able to ride on the paths. A lot of large roots in the blacktop paths. I think this is the new normal that we have to get used to due to the cost of maintaining these courses in this era of public golf. That aside I will return here as it is a great value and a very interesting Dan Maples layout, as most of his designs are.
Fun layout! Good condition.
Smart move to switch the start to the back. The front is more challenging, and warming up on the back is a wise decision. A fun layout! Fairways have good landing areas; but from the tips, some tees are back in a shoot. So hit 'em straight. Greens are good....starting to develop some burned spots, but still rolling good, albeit a bit slow. Really good conditions overall. It's a shame the ownership is struggling to keep investment up. Hazard markers non existent, and bunkers were in rough shape. Restaurant closed, no bar or snack bar to speak of. Lots of potential. On-course restrooms and watering holes are sparse and rough. Could be so much better! But good value anyways.
Very good mix of holes, played long from the white tees.
Greens and fairways were good, sand traps were not maintained at all. Overall not bad for what I paid.
A Gem!
Outstanding golf course, a true hidden gem in the sandhills area! Fairways were plush and greens truly rolled! I will definitely be going back time and time again.
Business trip round
Enjoyed the course tremendously. The problem shop attendant was non friendly and the driving range was run down and could use some maintenance. $5 for range balls and we got 16 balls. A bit pricey to me. The course itself saved the day after a not so great start.
A great layout
Despite the heat and rain during July, the course is in very good condition. Greens are smooth and the fairway are in great shape. My second time playing the course in a month.
Nice course, nice layout, and nice condition
We read/heard some bad reviews, but as our home course closed for the weekend we decided to give it a try. It came to us by surprise that the course is in very
good condition, green rolls true and smooth, in consistent speed, fairways are thick and consistent, rain over night did not cause us any problem at all. The layout is very interesting, variety of holes could challenge all the clubs in the bag. We did not have food in the club, so can't be sure of the other amenity,
also as we skipped a hole (two groups) to start so we are the first group on the course in the morning, so the pace of play was perfect too for us. Judging by looking around lunch time, the course was not busy either. Overall it is very pleasant round and we will come back.
Terrible staff, lack of courtesy and general rudeness.
This course is on life support. The "two" person staff was rude and made it clear they really don't like players on discounted rates. They made us wait around for an hour for our tee time even though there was only a few groups that teed off during that period. We were promised a junior rate under $20 for my grandson but when we arrived were forced to pay full rate for him even though an employee on phone told us we would be charged under $20.
They have not picked a weed or cleaned up around clubhouse in over a year. Clubhouse conditions in and out terrible. Nothing to eat or drink available. No wonder they struggle there.
Sail on by.
Course is challenging. Especially when tee boxes haven't been mowed. Grass in traps. Greens not mowed, fairways. The admemdies were drinks and chips. The grill was closed. Sail on by.
New super
The new superintendent has this course in great shape. As good as oceanico ever had it. Would like to see all bunkers switch to waste bunkers given poor shape and grainy sand. Other than that course was perfect. Off course amenities are nonexistent, no bar no food. With golf now app $39 or less is a steal.
Pleasantly surprised
I had not played Little River in the last few years and was concerned about what its condition would be given some of the reviews I've read and the financial difficulties the resort has faced. My son and I were pleasantly surprised how good of shape the course was in. The greens and fairways were excellent. The traps appear to need some work but are not too bad. We played the back tees which makes the course very challenging especially the front nine. It's always been one of my favorite courses in the Pinehurst area....very scenic... and am glad to see it's being well maintained again.
The golf shop has some food and drink but not much. The restaurant apparently is closed...do not know what plans are to reopen it or if this was a temporary closure.
Fun to play
Good course. Good looking layout. Fun to play. The bunkers could use some work, but pitcher wise the course was in great shape.
Mid week play
Always fun course to play. it is challenging.. The greens are in good shape, putt true but are on the slow side. The fairways are in good shape. I'd play there again
good course
The course is in good shape, the sand traps need work
or changed to wast areas.
Reborn
Just played Little River and it is in excellent shape. Fairway are very plush and greens are perfect. Great layout many great holes but the best is the par three, hit it from one side of lake to the other. curse is in the best shape i have seen in a couple of years.
Much improved
Play here about 5 times a year, the course was in much better shape that it has been, hope to continue to see this, this course could be one one of the best, with the beautiful natural surrounding of the course
Great value, well maintained course
We live about 30 miles from Little River and try to get there a few times a year to play because it's a really good course and a great value. If you are in the Pinehurst area, give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Greens were excellent, fairways good and nice restaurant for after the game.
Hot deal steal
Found a great deal and played quickly even on a Saturday with nice weather. Course was great for the price ($14)
