Wolf Creek Golf Club
About
For golfers who want real desert, making the 80-minute drive from Sin City's high-tech neon to Mesquite's low-tech neon is a road to travel.
For in Mesquite, there's not just old ladies at old-time slots. There's Wolf Creek Golf Club, an exceeding tough golf course where you might just run into a real-life road runner. This course features true desert canyons and all the wildlife that scampers across them.
The second tee box is 11 stories up. That's right, 11 stories up. Fantastic vision was encouraged at this Arnold Palmer design with helicopters being used to cart some of the rocks around and build higher holes. The bunkers are filled with crushed granite, providing another unique playing experience.
Wolf Creek was built to put Mesquite golf on the map. It succeeded.

wonderful layout
very scenic course, winds through canyons, many "interesting" tee shots
No GPS
I love love love a scenic course!!! This course really very pleasing to the eye, lots of up and down and great target golf. The only problem is that they do not have GPS on the carts and this is a course that needs it!!!!!
Course Conditions
We had a great time. Loved the course but were disappointed with the fairways. They were really dried out. A lot of our friends and family have played the course and when we showed them pictures they all said they had never seen the fairways in such bad shape. Other than that we enjoyed the experience and the food in the restaurant was delicious.
Extremely Challenging!
This course is a spectacular layout and just the most incredible scenery; however, I was surprised at the lack of GPS on the carts. I was travelling and did not have a rangefinder with me, so having a GPS is really needed here with some extreme elevation changes and some blind shots. I would have gave 5 stars, but for a course if this caliber to lack GPS units was disappointing for me personally. I will come back for sure to play it again, but will make sure to bring my rangefinder!
Tough course
Bring your A game. I wouldn’t recommend this course to anyone that has a handicap over 12. The greens are very fast and uneven. Beautiful layout and views. Lots of going up and down from hole to hole.
A visual stunner
This course never disappoints, it’s not for the faint of heart or high handicappers..
Beautiful views and great holes
Only for low handicap players
Agree with many that the course is beautiful, but almost unplayable for average players. Greens were rock hard, and more than once a ball that rolled past the hole at a slow pace would suddenly accelerate and roll off the green and 30 yards down the fairway. Rediculous! No point in bringing a ball mark repair tool, as even high approach shots would not leave a dent in the surface. I hit what I thought were perfect drives on several holes, right down the middle, but discovered that the ball would roll and roll, and roll until it found a lake, or a creek or some other obstacle to stop it. A guide of some sort is needed to know where and how far to hit the ball because just hitting long straight drives or an approach shot onto the green is not enough with these conditions. Almost no balls hit to a par 3 would hold - they just roll off.
Anyway, I don't recommend this course to any but the most expert players. Not a good value.
Loved the Wolf
First time playing here, and have played many other courses in the Las Vegas area. Totally loved the layout, the wonderful fairway conditions, and the greens were perfect, but hard to putt it close.,,,fast and firm. I think the layout is friendly and requires some thought on each shot. Lots of fun slopes and bumps to deal with and plan some wacky fun shots to get on the green sometimes if you are short or wide. But it is really a fun course. At every turn of the golf cart we had another fantastic view. The Cart paths were a hoot. Steep slopes in lots of up and downhill runs with speed bumps to keep to under control. Laughing, and smiling the whole way. Bunkers were sort of soft granular sand making for easy shots. Rough was a perfect 2" tall. Fairways fluffy and smooth. I can't say enough about how great it was to play here. Highly recommend this course .
Spectacular Golf, disappointing amenities/service
We have been ecstatic about our tee time for months, yet overall feel disappointed by the value of our experience. Note: I do suspect most of our negative experience are related to the very early AM tee time.
This is an absolutely spectacular course layout that is hard to beat, and overall give the course conditions a 9/10. Slightly disappointed in the conditions on a handful of the masters tee boxes, as well as a few unfortunate difficulties with unrepaired ball marks on greens (not fresh as we were likely the first group out today); these greens are a challenge and can be punishing, and for $280 it’s a bit of a gut punch to see crusted up areas on otherwise phenomenal greens. Did either of these significantly impact play? No. Bottom line on course conditions is that Wolf Creek is doing a phenomenal job maintaining this course, but I can’t get to 10/10 here.
If the above were the only negative experiences, this would probably still be a 5* rating. The most significant negative was the service/amenities available for early morning starts. Upon arriving ~30 minutes prior to our tee time, it would seem we were alone as the pro shop was locked and no starter or other attendants present. We were greeted ~15 minutes prior to tee time by a very friendly and charismatic attendant, who got us squared away and informed us the range would not be open yet (we’d already waited 15 minutes and likely didn’t have time, anyways), but that we could chip/putt if we wanted. We informed him we weren’t able to check in yet as the pro shop was still locked, to which he radio’d for them to unlock the doors. We got checked in and headed back to prepare to play, to find that the starter still wasn’t setup. Anyways, he did get everything settled and walked us through the course (albeit briefly and he was unable to accurately advise us of todays pin position). He informed us that there was no beverage cart, but the wolfs den would be open between the 3/4th hole for food and drinks. Sadly, this was note the case, but we continued on playing the beautiful front 9. At the turn, we attempted to grab a quick round of beverages and snacks for the back, but the host stand/restaurant was unattended and seemingly still setting up. The attendant did inform us that we could hit the wolfs den on 13/14, oh well. On a brighter note, a gentlemen greeted us on the 18th green and cleaned our clubs while we finished up which was a nice and appreciated gesture.
Upon completing the round, the attendant near cart return was friendly and welcoming. We headed inside for a bite and beverage, to find an again mostly unattended host stand/restaurant. We ended up just seating ourselves at the bar, but waited ~5 minutes to be greeted and served. The bartender failed to correctly repeat our drink order back to us no less than 4 times, and after finishing a first round and waiting over 10 minutes, we decided to just close out instead of enjoying another round on the patio.
On another high note, pro shop staff (when it was unlocked) were great and they were running a promo for $20 off any apparel purchase for those playing today, which did make the overall cost a bit more palatable.
TLDR; golf is spectacular and worth experiencing, but I would avoid early morning tee times as you get lesser amenities and service for the same greens fees.
Stop reading and go play already!
The title says it all, no?
At least 16 of the holes at Wolf Creek could be signature holes at other courses, that's how great they look and play. The views at this course simply put it in a category of its own. I've played well over 300 different courses and I rank this one #1 out of all of them without hesitation.
Yes there are a few small negatives, some of which could be improved, but none that should deter you from playing:
The pace of play is slow; there is lots of driving involved both between holes and between the tee shot and 2nd shots. This is not something to be fixed by a ranger. Enjoy the time off, take pictures and drink a few since you have time after all.
A few improvements could be made to help bring the 5:15-ish play time to about 4:45 (anything shorter is unrealistic with this layout), such as reworking cart paths to allow easier passing, more on-course cart access (most notably #17), and more stairs to make greens easier to access (like #15).
Speaking of the carts, they are tired gas carts and the tires are ready to be changed. Driving downhill at 5mph with my foot on the brake, there were still times where the cart drifted slightly sideways. Tread carefully (pun intended).
And yes the driving range is irons only, but with the location, this is going to be a hard one to fix.
Play a side game where you count how many times someone in your group says "wow", and trust me, you'll say it a lot. If you're in Mesquite or passing by, do yourself a favor and play Wolf Creek!
Worth Every Penny
Course Is in amazing shape. Every tee box is a spectacular view.
Canyon Golf
Well worth the Drive To mesquite . Amazing vistas. Incredible layout and elevation changes. Gorgeous
SLOW
When we checked in for our tee time the pro shop told us to expect a 5-5 1/2 hour round which likely meant we wouldn’t finish. We played the front 9 in 2 1/2 hours and waited on every shot. We had to quit after 15 holes because of darkness. It seems like they should be able to figure out how to shorten the round vs. giving twilight rates to anything later than 12:30.
The course is spectacular but nobody likes a 5-5 1/2 hour round,
A must play golf course,,,,,,
If visiting Las Vegas and you play golf, you have got to make the drive up to Mesquite. Wolf Creek will not disappoint but you better be on your game. Unbelievable layout with great greens.
Wolf Creek at Paradise Canyon
Great views on every hole. Really enjoyed the round.
Average round at course
Played here many times. Staff has consistently been friendly & helpful. The course was pretty good; however, the greens were like concrete & pretty choppy and the pace of play was bad with the split start times. The starter advised us to maintain 2-2:15 hours on the Back 9, which we did. Took us 3 & half hours to complete the front 9, reason: too many of the tee boxes were stacked with two groups while another group was teeing off. With the course conditions & the multiple par 4 cart path only today i prefer to play at the lesser rate in middle of summer,
Overall Good
The staff were great. Very long round as it was 5 hrs+ made for a very long day as it’s a fairly lengthy drive from the strip. The course is in great shape, the greens are firm and roll really well! Plenty of elevation changes. If you are afraid of heights this may not be the place for you as you will be driving up and down through the canyons! Brace for white knuckle driving! With the exception of pace of play overall the course is excellent
