Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club
About
Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club is a James Braid design that measures nearly 6,000 yards from the tips. It's not long, but the golf course's small, deceptive greens and strategically placed bunkers will keep things interesting.
Players will also have to reckon with the public road dissecting the course, the proximity of the sea to eight of the holes and the thick swaths of gorse that punish wayward shots. The par-5 fourth hole is one to watch out for, arguably the toughest challenge on the course.

Proper links golf
Course for time of year was in excellent condition. Always a challenge with the wind . Greens so true, nice to make some putts on proper greens.
I liked it so much
That I'm now a member of Fortrose and Rosemarkie. The club secretary worked with me very well as I waited to find out about a tournament entry at another course; when I actually got into the tournament, he shifted my tee time three days later. The weather was miserable when I arrived, with plenty of wind and temperatures in the 30s, but I enjoyed the golf, the layout and the scenery so much I decided to join the club! And one of my rare birdies on #5 didn't hurt either. And when I decided to join, that same club secretary made the process very easy.
loved the course
The wind was very windy! but the sky was blue & the views were fantastic. I didn’t score too well on the first 9 - getting used to the course & the wind and scored much better on the back 9. I thought that I’d hit a great shot on the par 3 towards the lighthouse only to watch the ball get blown about 50 yards off course! It was wonderful having the sea on both sides of the course and we even saw dolphins in the water by the lighthouse. Definitely recommend this experience.
Fantastic Fun
Hugely enjoyable course, in a stunning and truly unique location. A hidden gem and good value on a hot deal!

Great Experience!
Quirky course, good test for all golfers! Better than expected! Definitely worth the journey.
Amazing course!!!!
Wish I could have given course 6 stars! Everything was top notch, incredible hospitality between pro.shop and restaurant. Course conditions were perfect. Meet up with a couple that let me play with them. Played in just over 3 hours. 👍👍. Views are amazing. Will definitely play again when I’m in the area.
Moray Firth gem
One of the oldest courses in Scotland, it has stunning views and is a typical links setup. Played on a calm day, can imagine it would be fun with a wind down the Moray Firth! There’s enough gorse to get your attention, but a few holes with more space too. Greens in excellent condition and, as it is largely a members course, the pace of play was quick.
Wonderful experience
Had heard good reviews about F& RGC, and wasn’t disappointed, I thought the course was an excellent design courtesy of Braid.
Was also extremely lucky to have two cracking days of weather with little wind.
All the staff I came into contact with were first class and couldn’t be more helpful and friendly.
Would recommend to anyone.
Wonderful
Fabulous day and first time playing here. The layout is superb and the pro shop and clubhouse well stocked with friendly staff.
Unfortunately the greens had been sanded so weren't as good as expected.
What a hidden gem!
I'm ashamed I had never heard of Fortrose before I started researching where to play on my second visit to the Scottish Highlands. This might be the best value for links golf in all of Scotland. It's shocking that such a cool links occupies such a narrow peninsula jutting out into the Moray Firth. There's water views from every hole, and the ever-present cross winds make a short course (6,200 yards) plenty challenging. The lighthouse, gorse and a couple blind shots add more to its personality. Definitely worth adding to your Highlands itinerary.
SLOW PLAY!! ZzZzZ
Was really looking forward to playing this course. Buuuut. Arrived to be told they were running 10 minutes late, can understand as this generally happens. We were behind 4 beginner golfers who stood and spoke on the tee even though it was fine to tee off. Buggies left at green side meaning we couldn’t play our approach shots. Irritating to say the least. Anyhoo, as we approached the half way mark we were over 3 hours! Luckily we were beside the clubhouse and could of walked in. We continued on after we seen the group in front walk in. We were then stuck behind a 2 ball who waited for the green to clear . This would be fine on a par 3 and not a 400 yard par 4! This happened at every tee. We finally got finished just before the 5 hour mark with all the groups walking off behind us due to the slow play. Word from the members were you can get round in 2 hours 10 mins! If the rounds were this long all the time then some marriages would get tested. Tough course in the wind with fairways like concrete! Immaculate greens! Would play again as long as I knew I was getting back in time for supper.
Fortrose and Rosemarkie
A short, tight links. Well worth a visit. Stunning location out in the Moray Firth.
Highly Recommend!
I've been told on numerous occasions by friends that if I got the chance to play Fortrose & Rosemarkie then I should take it. I got that chance today.
From the professional to the members I met and spoke to, either on the course or around the clubhouse, everyone was very warm, friendly and happy to chat. The course itself was a great test as the wind was blowing quite steadily and the fairways are extremely fiery due to the dry weather we've had of late. The greens were firm but rolled very true so I could have no complaints. Overall the condition of the course was excellent.
Really enjoyable round of golf. Would definitely recommend anyone to play Fortrose & Rosemarkie if you're in the area. Will definitely come back for another visit in the future.
