Description
Dunfermline Pitreavie Golf Club was built by renowned architect Alistair Mackenzie. This parkland course and has undulating fairways and beautiful panoramic views of the Forth Valley, including Forth rail and road Bridges.
Greens here are some of the finest in Fife and most often have two and even three tiers, making four-putts very possible. The club originally opened in 1922, about a decade prior to Mackenzie's construction of Augusta National.
The club is long for an older Scottish course, playing slightly more than 6,000 yards. The first hole is daunting, a 470-yard par 4, but that's as long as the par 4s get. The ninth plays just 277 yards, but over a deep gorge.
Both nines are a par 35 and play at almost exactly the same length. Each nine has one par 5 and the backside finishes with a 511-yard closing hole. Each par 3 also varies in distance, from 130-yard short-iron shots to 200-plus long-iron or wood drives.
Pitreavie Golf Club is a moderately priced club. It's located southeast of town on A823 about two miles off the M90 junction between Rosyth and Dunfermline.
Visitors are welcome daily to the club. Pull carts and golf clubs are available for rental.
