Golf Courses

Palmetto Dunes Resort - Robert Trent Jones Course

Architect:  Robert Trent Jones Sr.
Description:
Add some of Jones' seemingly patented bunkers and large, well-bunkered greens and you've got plenty of good golf ahead of you here. This Palmetto Dunes Resort course is well-known for its many views of the ocean. The finest is found at the 10th hole, a par-5 on the card of 540 yards. Its green is set out by the ocean, and it takes three good shots to reach it when the wind is blowing in your face.

Palmetto Dunes Resort - Arthur Hills Course

Architect:  Arthur Hills
Description:
The Hills site was blessed with continuous lines of dunes and thick stands of palmettos. The renown architect took full advantage of the natural dunes and created an continuously rolling layout with dramatic elevation changes. This course has a unique seaside character, with rough and fairway bunkers notably absent. The dune lines continue into the greens, thus creating undulating surfaces. Off-balance lies and ocean breezes area a constant challenge, and lagoons come into play on many holes.

Palmetto Dunes Resort - Fazio Course

Architect:  George Fazio
Description:
This is a strong test of golf. There's loads of sand traps, but more importantly, there's a assortment of demanding par-4s that matches that of any course in the Southeast. Opened in 1974, the course underwent a major over-haul in 1994. As a result, it is consistently in excellent condition and as challenging a test of golf as Hilton Head has to offer.

Palmetto Hall - Arthur Hills Course

Architect:  Arthur Hills
Description:
The Palmetto Hall - Arthur Hills Course flows across the land's naturally rolling curves, winding through deep thicket of mossdraped oaks and towering pines punctuated with sparkling lakes. Like the best of Hills' work, the course is integrated into the natural landscape. Along with the designer's trademark undulating fairways, this heavily treed course features protected greens, many edged with bunkers, as well as strategically placed with water hazards. Most memorable is the large lake bordering the difficult 18th hole.

Palmetto Hall - Robert Cupp Course

Architect:  Robert Cupp
Description:
Named the 1992 Golf Architect of the Year by Golf World, Cupp plotted the course's original design on computer, thus this well-maintained, challenging layout is characterized by straight lines, sharp angles and unusual shapes. The Cupp course is extremely flexible depending on which tees you elect to play from. From the back tees its 141 slope rating ranks it as one of the most demanding championship courses in the southeastern part of the United States, while the course is eminently playable from the forward tees.
