The Grand Hotel

Resort Overview

A trip to Mackinac Island, Michigan, is like stepping back in time, and the Grand Hotel is a big part of the island's charm. Today, guests enjoy modern amenities set in the hotel's original architecture and charm. Built in 1887, a trip to the Grand Hotel is a tradition for generations of Michigan families. The attention to detail is a big part of the charm. No two of the 385 guest rooms are alike, each with its own character and style. There are also more than three dozen themed rooms and suites -- such as the Lincoln Suite and the Hollywood suite.

Style is a big part of the Grand Hotel experience. The Main Dining Room, for instance, requires a coat and tie for the gentlemen and a dress or pantsuit for lady diners after 6:30 p.m. The dress code is worth it for the view overlooking the Straits of Mackinac alone. Want something more casual? Try the Gate House, the Jockey Club at the Grand Stand or Carleton's Tea Store. For relaxation, choose from golf, tennis, swimming, the spa, horseback riding and more. Or venture outside the hotel grounds to Mackinac Island. Cars are not allowed, and horse and carriage and bicycles are the preferred modes of transportation about the island.
