Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST
Architect: Greg NormanDescription:
The Greg Norman course at PGA WEST® is the most recent addition to "The Western Home of Golf in America". Opening to rave reviews, this unique and beautiful layout is Norman's first desert design. With less than 70 total acres of turf, striking sugar sand bunkers, 9 water features and colorful indigenous landscaping, this course provides the ultimate in challenge and beauty.
Golf courses are made in the image of their creators, and Norman, a.k.a. "the Shark," is known for an aggressive style of play. On a Norman design, the risk-reward ratio is highly correlated, and those who spend strokes on safe shots may wind up feeling like shark chum. Yet, Norman insists the measure of great course is playability for a variety of levels.
The Greg Norman is a plain - a seabed 40-feet below sea level - that's surrounded by an immense crescent of terra-cotta mountains. The course teems with purple, white and yellow wildflowers. The mix of tall and short native grasses produce different shades of green running almost to silver, and the trees - mesquite, paloverde and acacia - are native to the low desert and visually arresting.
