| Tiger Woods is no credit to the game of golf, reader says. (Chris Baldwin/WorldGolf.com) |
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Finally a clear concise representation of why I dislike Tiger, and a publication with the stones to say it. ("Game of honor? Tiger Woods' behavior reveals golf has lost its gentlemanly ways," By Brandon Tucker)
I have been, for many years since Tiger's entry onto the PGA Tour, been defending my dislike for him on the basis he lacks traditional golf behavior skills. Tiger is not the type of golfer I want my (soon to be) children to look up to and take their cues from.
Personally, I find Tiger's fist pumping and tantrum-like behavior to be of low class. He should show more respect toward both the "gentlemen's" sport as well as to the iconic position he finds himself.

"It is a little far fetched that Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada only have a couple of Top 100 courses in the Golf Magazine list. I have played both We-Ko-Pa Golf Club courses in Scottsdale many times, and let me tell you, it compares with almost any of the Top 100 except the obvious few (Augusta National, Pine Valley, etc)."

Do you believe in "just deserts"? If you do then Woods deserves to "go to hell" because of his infidelity to his wife and particularly children. No amount of sports contriving will ever, ever, ever, over shadow his abuse of his family. As far as I am concerned I hope Woods fininshes last in every tournament he enters.

I admit that in light if these recent accusations about Tiger cheating on his wife, I think differently about him. You're right. He's no longer the pillar of perfection that people have come to see him as over the past decade. The fact that he cheated on his wife multiple times, even when she was seven months pregnant with their first child is just terrible. But to say that Tiger doesn't deserve credit for what he has done on the golf course is completely absurd. Tiger Woods is quite simply the most dominant athlete in the world, and possible the most dominant of all time because of his intensity and competitiveness. You may not like his fist-pumps or cursing after bad shots, but truthfully, its hard for anyone to bottle up that much intensity. Tiger's emotion is what makes him so great at golf..without it he would not have had nearly the success that he has. All champions in the past have acted like this also: Ali was one of the most arrogant athletes of all time and even Michael Jordan showed a complete lack of humility by trashing his previous doubters at his Hall of Fame induction. Plus, Tiger Woods is always a good sport when he loses, even if deep down he wants to scream.

Tiger is merely an extension of what Muhammad Ali started in the mid-sixties; a bufoonish disregard of gentlemenly behavior.
When you win, be humble. Don't rub it in to your opponents face or blemish the very sport that enriches your coffers.
Show some class, dignity and respect.
It's the right thing to do!

Don't relate Tiger Woods to Ali. Ali was a self-promoter in a dangerous, crime infested sport who was a showman, and became an icon as much as for standing up against the Vietnam War as he was as one of the greatest boxers of all time.
Tiger Woods is an opportunist, who stands for money, only. He is a talented golfer, a sport that has no risk other than pants clashing with the shirt. The ball is stationary and you get to club it. No one tackles you, there are no adversaries. It is a rich mans sport, in which Woods refused to stand behind women who were barred from Augusta. The latest revelations show he is as shallow as an 18th hole. Whether he is excited about winning a tournament just shows he is immature.
Immature, shallow, stands for nothing but $$...that is the epitaph of Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods has the same halo effect that Obama has. He is a poor sport and not an asset to the game of golf. Why does everyone praise him ? He is a machine devoid of human emotion. It is all about him even when it is not. I am sick of the coverage that he gets.

Tiger is a great golfer, we all get that. I am sick of hearing stories about him blowing off fans and refusing to sign anything...Jordan was very very fan friendly that is why he is still an Icon. ESPN and the like are in love with Woods, Tiger shoots even par and the LEAD on ESPN News - Masters scores ... Woods -2 ....then they show the top ten...WHAT???? are you kidding me....get over it ESPN, he is great...BUT show the leaders FIRST, give them credit ...can you imgine this going on if Nicklaus or Trevino or Watson were playing at thier peck...NOPE

What? Why are you so into defending Tiger Woods? As if you know him personally. Oh and go back to grammar school. I could barely understand what you're trying to say.

I agree completely. I concede that he is a indeed a great golfer. However, he is a vile human being and someone needs to teach him a lesson in humility.

nicely stated. I really thought he was much more and we needed him and everything he represented. How disappointing. Oh well.

Tiger has done more to promote than anyone in this century, or last, especially juniors. I don't mind the fist pumping because so many of them do it now. The profanity I do mind. So many of the young golfers show tempers on the course. They all need to know how to control it.
