Don't forget that Prestwick Golf Club and Royal Troon Golf Club are easy drives from Turnberry. Also, Tain and Brora golf clubs are close to Royal Dornoch. So staying at Turnberry you can add two well-known courses, and staying at Dornoch you can play two unknown gems in addition to Royal Dornoch.
Another "stay and play" option is to stay in a hotel in the Aberdeen area and play Royal Aberdeen, Murcar and Cruden Bay. Stay at Greywalls Hotel in East Lothian and play Muirfield, Gullane No. 1 and North Berwick. All great venues.
