TPC Scottsdale's Champions Course is one of the better value plays in Phoenix/Scottsdale golf
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The TPC Scottsdale Champions Course is the second fiddle to Waste Management Phoenix Open host, the Stadium Course. The Champions Course was built on the site of the former TPC Desert Course, and was completely rebuilt in 2007 by Randy Heckenkemper. As a Scottsdale municipal course, it is aimed at being one of the better value plays in Scottsdale, and has a price point well below the vaunted Stadium Course and more in line with area bargain courses, but the shot values here are certainly tour-worthy.
The golf course plays plenty challenging for tour pros and aspiring area golfers, playing as a par-71 to more than 7,100 yards from the championship tees and three forward sets. There are plenty of risk-reward moments throughout the design, such as a split fairway par-4 fifth hole and a drivable par-4 15th on the back nine.
The Champions course has its own driving range, restaurant and practice facilities and is just minutes away from the Stadium Course clubhouse. Because of its separate location, it is open for public play during Waste Management Phoenix Open week to visitor play.
