It was a whirlwind year for me in 2012, traveling to five foreign countries -- Ireland, Mexico, Turks & Caicos, Bermuda and Canada -- to play golf.
It was exhausting but exhilarating. My favorite images from my travels show the beauty of the game of golf. One of the hazards of a job on the run is I don't often have the time to get the perfect set-up for a photograph, whether it be great light or the right angle.
But I think we'll all agree that these are still pretty good shots, if not for the quality of the photo but the beauty of the subject.
It's easy to take special pictures in Bermuda and Los Cabos, Mexico, two of the premier oceanfront golf destinations. The same could be said of Wisconsin's famous Straits Course at Whistling Straits, the rocky terrain of Muskoka in Ontario, Canada, (home of Bigwin Island Golf Club and Taboo Golf Club) and the Highland Course at Primland Resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. All three are set is glorious locales.
It's tougher getting great shots of Irish links when the sun rarely shines, but there were a few bright moments during my trip to the 2012 Irish Open. My favorite tournament was still the 2012 Waste Management Open, where I watched in awe from the stadium surrounding the 16th green at the TPC Scottsdale.
Of the biggest surprises, I was taken aback by the serenity of the Delaware River running alongside the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort in Pennsylvania and the sheer majesty of the Pacific Northwest at Salish Cliffs Golf Club in Washington. There's still no lusher parkland setting than the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas. I hope these images inspire you to visit someday.
