Take a closer look at The Renaissance Club in East Lothian, Scotland
One of the newest golf courses in Scotland is The Renaissance Club, which opened in 2008 in East Lothian, between Gullane and North Berwick.
Tom Doak of Renaissance Golf Design penned the golf course. Doak moved very little land here, but a good deal of trees were cleared out, so the course features a mix of wooded and wide open holes. The ground is wall-to-wall fescue, so it still has a firm, links feel.
Set on high ground next to Muirfield, there are Firth of Forth views from many spots, including the ninth green, and especially on the back nine around 12 and 13.
Three more sea holes are planned, though the club must get building clearance from local authorities first. The Renaissance Club is currently private, though it is fielding members and allows prospective members stay-and-play at the lodge.
