The Prince Course is one of Hawaii's highest rated golf courses, one of two courses at the Princeville Resort on Kauai's North Shore. It is also regarded as one of Hawaii's most difficult, featuring a very penal Robert Trent Jones Jr. design that stretches to over 7,300 yards from the championship tees.
The course plays through rugged mountainsides high above sea level, and the back nine is especially elevated. The par-4 12th hole offers one of the best vantage points from the tee but is also exposed to the elements, requiring a near perfect drive to find the tree-lined fairway well below. The Prince's signature hole is the par-3 seventh, playing over a coastal ravine to a green. Most greens here are very well guarded by hazards and steep bunkers, and fairways yield few flat lies.
The Prince isn't for the squeamish, but six sets of tees ensure anyone can make it around, so long as your ego doesn't feel bruised playing a box up.
Green fees on the Prince peak at $200, though resort guests and p.m. rates are cheaper.
