Portmarnock Golf Club near Dublin, Ireland golf in pictures

Portmarnock Golf Club, north of Dublin, is one of Ireland's traditional links courses on the peninsula of Portmarnock, originally founded in 1894. Today there are 27 holes on the property, but the land has been used for golf since the 1850s. The club's first president was John Jameson (of Whiskey fame).

It has played host to the 1991 Walker Cup, as well as 12 stagings of the Irish Open. Portmarnock also claims to be the host of Arnold Palmer's first ever true links experience, in the Canada Cup in 1960.

The course is very fair but challenging. Greens are firm and big, like most championship links. The third hole plays right up against marsh to the right, and there are small ponds scattered throughout the course. Portmarnock is located about 12 miles north of Dublin'sa city center.

Not to be confused with the Golf Club,
Portmarnock Golf Links is a modern links course designed by Bernhard Langer. It also has superior signage, so be sure you're in the right parking lot.

Photos here are taken from the Golf Club's front nine, also named the "Red Course."
