Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Beach, Calif. boasts not one but two Tom Fazio ocean golf courses that were just revamped by Fazio. It's all part of a grand luxury plan that will include the opening of a plush resort this winter. The goal is to make Pelican Hill one of California's golf resort destination spots, and the golf itself appears up to the task. Pelican Hill Ocean North Course is the more wide-open of the two golf courses, probably the less difficult and many swear the most scenic.

You'll see ocean from a number of holes. Then on No. 18, you'll only be asked to clear two gaping canyons on the way to the green in what's clearly one of California's great finishing holes.
