Notah Begay III Foundation Challenge at Turning Stone

Tiger Woods won the second annual Notah Begay III Foundation Challenge Monday, Aug. 24.

Notah Begay III, who met Woods when they were roommates at Stanford, hosted the event at the Atunyote Golf Club at Turning Stone in Verona, N.Y. Begay and Woods competed against Mike Weir and Camilo Villegas, the defending champion. The tournament is a fundraiser to support health and wellness programs for American Indian youth on Indian reservations.

Begay, the only American Indian golfer on the PGA Tour, founded the foundation in 2005 to help raise awareness among American Indian youth about obesity and diabetes.

Playing in a skins game format, Villegas birdied the 14th hole to take the lead, but Woods earned the victory on the next three holes. Notah Begay III birdied the 18th hole to take third place, shutting out Mike Weir for the second year in a row. The tournament raised $750,000 for Begay's foundation.
