Makai Golf Club at St. Regis Princeville Resort on Kauai, Hawaii
The Makai Golf Club at St. Regis Princeville is back and better than ever following an 18-month reseeding and redesign project. Originally opened in 1971, the Robert Trent Jones Jr. design now plays over 7,200 yards after a fourth set of tee boxes was added. Troon Golf also assumed management of the 27-hole course, which will now play as the 18-hole Makai Golf Club and nine-hole Woods course, which were formerly intertwined.
The most notable changes to the golf course was a complete reseeded of the course to seashore paspalum turf to the tees, fairways and greens. Design-wise, the green complexes were altered and enhanced. The oceanside 14th hole, a short par 4, was the most significant change with the addition of many new bunkers and a green site closer to the cliff.
The golf course opened in conjunction with the new St. Regis Princeville Resort, which also closed for extensive upgrades to the property's guest rooms and public areas, including a brand new pool.
