Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Virginia features a variety of elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers throughout. Ponds and creeks also come into play on a few holes.
One of the most interesting holes on the course is the par-3 11th, which offers two separate sets of tees that provide different angles at the green. One set requires hitting across a deep ravine to a wide, but shallow green with a large bunker in front while the other set of tees sits next to an old barn and silo and hits to a long, narrow green that is protected on both sides by bunkers.
Designed by Bill love, it is a truly unique round that has been called one of the best municipal golf courses in the country. In addition to the course, Laurel Hill Golf Club offers a 30-station driving range that features both mat and grass tees and a multi-tiered putting and chipping green with practice bunkers.
Laurel Hill G.C. sits upon acres of what used to be the Lorton Corrections facility. The course skillfully transforms the former prison, utilizing the mature trees and native grasses and incorporating the 18th-century buildings into the views.
