The K Club in Ireland, with two Arnold Palmer championship golf courses, is truly special
STRAFFAN, County Kildare, Ireland -- Sprawling over 550 acres of idyllic countryside along the River Laffey, it is no wonder that the K Club is one of Europe's top golf resorts.
The resort boasts two Arnold Palmer-designed championship courses: the Palmer Ryder Cup Course and the Palmer Smurfit Course.
The Palmer Ryder Cup Course is consistently ranked as one of the top three parkland golf courses in Ireland and has been played by a number of famous names as host of the Ryder Cup in 2006 and 11 European Opens over the years.
It is difficult to compare the two courses since the Palmer Smurfit Course has an inland links layout with an entirely different feel, although it is just as challenging.
The K Club's location provides not only endless scenery but also plenty of different activities, including horseback riding, clay pigeon shooting, and numerous walking and cycling trails.
One of the most unique aspects of the resort, though, is that there is an opportunity to become acquainted with the ancient art of falconry. The K Club is home to several different species of falcons, hawks, owls, and a golden eagle.
