Jack attack: Tour the public golf courses that Nicklaus conquered on the PGA Tour

Jack Nicklaus won 73 times on the PGA Tour, third all-time behind Sam Snead (82) and Tiger Woods (79).

Nicklaus ruled California and Florida, winning 17 times on some of their most famous public courses. He lifted trophies four times at Pebble Beach, including the 1972 U.S. Open, and won three Tournament of Champions titles on the composite course at what is now the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in southern California.

He won at two other current PGA Tour venues in California as well -- at Silverado Country Club, now the North Course at Silverado Resort and Spa, home to the 2014 Frys.com Open, and at Torrey Pines.

In Florida, Nicklaus captured six titles -- three each -- on the Palm Course and Magnolia Course at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando and at Inverrary Country Club in Lauderhill in southeast Florida. He twice conquered the Blue Monster at what is now the Trump National Doral Miami.

Nicklaus was equally lethal playing links golf at the Open Championship in Scotland, taking the claret jug twice on the Old Course at St. Andrews and once at Muirfield.

The Golden Bear also won at Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina, the Grizzly Course he designed at the Golf Center at Kings Island in Ohio and at Lakewood Golf Club in Louisiana.

With so much success at so many different public courses, it's easy to see why Nicklaus is the greatest of all time.
