Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Ohio
Set in the Heatherwoode community of rural Springboro, Ohio, Heatherwoode Golf Club opened in 1991, offering affordable public play on a medium-length championship layout. Former host to the Nike Tour's Miami Valley Open, the 18-hole course was designed by Dennis Griffiths, with a slope rating of 134.
The course layout features four sets of teeboxes for the enjoyment of golfers of all skill levels, and plays at 6,730 yards from the back tees for a par 72. The bentgrass is beautifully manicured and maintained, with excellent drainage, which comes in handy during the rainy Midwestern springs. That said, there's still plenty of water here - seven lakes and a creek - which means strategic shooting is a must. Difficult holes are mixed in with birdie holes, and some blind shots are inevitable, so it doesn't hurt to check your scorecard before each tee-off.
In addition to Ohio's natural scenery, which is especially attractive in the fall, one of the main attractions at Heatherwoode G.C. is the welcoming attitude of the staff. There's also a driving range, golf shop, and banqueting facilities that cater to any budget.
