Forest Dunes Golf Club in Roscommon, Michigan

ROSCOMMON, Mich. - Forest Dunes Golf Club is a relatively new northern Michigan golf course opened in 2002. The course is the centerpiece of a large new real estate community near Roscommon in north central Michigan about an hour south of Gaylord.

Forest Dunes is a championship caliber Tom Weiskopf design over 7,200 yards from the back tees that earns its name by having half of the holes played through forest, with the other half played through more open, sandy dunes land. For being an inland golf course, the terrain here is unusually sandy and barren, which makes it very suitable for golf. Most of Forest Dunes Golf Club's front nine plays through forest while the majority of the back side plays through dunes, though each nine has a couple holes of the other environment.

There's also a 19th hole at Forest Dunes Golf Club, and we're not talking about the bar. It's a short par 3 over water to a green with a bunker in the middle. Forest Dunes is a semi-private golf club until membership gets filled when the real estate fills out though those days are in the distant future.
