Seven courses stock Crystal Springs Golf Resort in Hamburg, New Jersey with options
HAMBURG, N.J. -- Crystal Springs Golf Resort might have the most diverse collection of golf experiences in the country.
The 117-hole resort in a scenic north Jersey setting boasts three courses next to its luxurious Grand Cascades Lodge: Crystal Springs Golf Club, Wild Turkey Golf Club and Cascades Golf Course, a relatively new nine-holer by Roger Rulewich.
Architect Robert von Hagge made Crystal Springs tight and difficult with all its mounding, while Rulewich's Wild Turkey sports wide fairways and large greens. The resort uses Cascades as its grow-the-game facility.
Every green features two holes, one regulation size and one larger cup for beginners or juniors. The par-31, 2,305-yard Minerals course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1987 just down the road, also uses the two-flag system to encourage family and beginner play. Families with children can ride together on four-person carts.
Ballyowen Golf Club, arguably the resort's best course, sports a links theme with kilt-wearing staff and tall fescue lining the fairways. Black Bear Golf Club, playing 6,673 yards, and the 27-hole Great Gorge Country Club -- a narrow, scenic George Fazio course dating to 1970 that still promotes a disco-era-themed clubhouse -- are popular for outings.
A David Leadbetter Golf Academy and a free 18-hole all-grass putting course outside of the Grand Cascades Lodge complete this versatile golf resort.
