Cozumel Country Club is an outstanding Mexico golf course. It's is about five minutes from the Playa Azul Golf Scuba Spa Hotel on this Mexican island paradise, but proximity isn't the only reason to stay at one and play the other: Playa Azul guests pay no green fees here.
Carts are required and cost $25, but as catches go that's a pretty moderate one, especially to play a first-rate Nicklaus Design course (Jack's son Steve was primarily responsible for the layout) winding a touch over 6,700 yards through protected wetlands and alongside jungle that is mostly lateral but makes for some interesting carries.
The Nicklauses built some nice movement into the fairways, the greens sport good slope and undulation and conditioning is very good, showing no sign of the $1 million in damage the course suffered during 2005's Hurricane Wilma. The course is worthy of repeat play, and the affiliated Playa Azul has everything you'd expect from a Caribbean resort, along with those green-fee waivers.
