Enjoy olive trees and the Mediterranean Sea on the Dunes Course at Costa Navarino in Greece
Located in Messina near the town of Pylos, which borders the Mediterranean Sea on the southwest coast of Greece, Costa Navarino is home to two 18-hole championship golf courses, starting with its original Dunes Course. The course is an amenity of the Costa Navarino resort development that features two Starwood hotels, the Westin Costa Navarino and The Romanos hotel (which opens in the summer of 2012 and is part of Starwood's Luxury Collection).
The Dunes Course helped usher in a new era of golf in Greece. It opened in 2010 and was designed by the team of Bernhard Langer and European Golf Design. The course sits on rolling ground with many cliff-top spots that afford dazzling views of the sea and surrounding mountains. Many holes are lined with olive trees, many of which are hundreds of years old. From the back set of four tees the course plays 6,177 meters and a par 72. Helping to add to the excitement, there are a handful of short, drivable par 4s on the course, including the second hole, which plays downhill toward the sea. The course culminates with an uphill par 5 that plays back toward the clubhouse and up to 491 meters from the back tees.
In addition to the original Dunes Course, Costa Navarino also unveiled the 18-hole Bay Course in 2011, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.
