LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic -- Perennially ranked as the top golf course in the Caribbean, Pete Dye's Teeth of the Dog Course at Casa de Campo remains the benchmark of tropical seaside courses.
Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2011, this 7,500-yard, par-72 course has seven holes on the ocean, three of which rank among the most spectacular par 3s you'll ever play. The golf course was carved out without the use of heavy machinery. Instead, Dye's crew used pickaxes, sledgehammers and chisels to create the holes along the coast.
And the other 11 aren't bad either, featuring lakes, ponds, Dye's odd-shaped bunkers and a difficult finishing hole by the clubhouse. With six different tee combinations, there's a setup for every player, but somewhere along the line, the "Dog" is most likely to get you.
