Cable Beach Golf Club is not an ocean golf course, even if it is in the Bahamas, across the road from beaches that hug the Atlantic. But Cable Beach definitely brings the water into Bahamas golf.
Sixteen of the 18 holes boast water obstacles on this Fred Settle Jr. redesign of a course that first opened in 1929. The water at Cable Beach comes in ponds, often filled with marshy tall grasses, and it's penalizing. You can only avoid it so long.
There's no reason for you to avoid this most Bahamian of all the courses on the Bahamas' most populated island. Locals come out for the after 3 p.m. $35 twilight rate, and many of the hotels on Cable Beach, which is often called resort row, offer free shuttle service to the course.
Once there, you'll find a track in which just bombing away with the driver will not get you too far. Cable Beach challenges your iron play and your brain. Then, you can head back to the beach.
