Arcos Gardens Golf Club in Andalucia, Spain
One of the top new golf courses in Spain to emerge over the last few years in the southern state of Andalucia is the Arcos Gardens Golf Club, just outside the historic city of Arcos De La Frontera.
Arcos Gardens was designed by the Landmark group and is set through an old olive grove forest on rolling countryside. It's an especially playable golf course, as fairways are generous, and there isn't anything too penal about it on a calm day.
That said, the greens here take on a life of their own - often massive and very undulating - and can be difficult to read. There are five sets of tees here playing up to 7,382 yards long.
Arcos De La Frontera, perched atop a cliff a few kilometers away, is visible from many holes here, especially once you get up into the high level holes on the back nine. The par-3 15th and par-5 16th offer both elevated tee shots and the best views on the golf course, set on the highest ground.
The course is part of a new residential and resort estate, Arcos Gardens Golf & Country Estate. The country house hotel is 300 years old. A new clubhouse for the golf course is currently under construction, but a large driving range and short game area is open.
