Rio Mar Country Club's Ocean Course in Puerto Rico gets its "ocean" moniker thanks to the par-3 16th that is a long, 200-plus-yard hole that plays beside the beach. Cumberland Trail Golf Club in Pataskala, Ohio, a Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry design, opened in 2000. The 7,205-yard playground roughly 22 miles east of Columbus features two distinct nines, a more forgiving and open front side and a tougher back nine cut through woods and 40 acres of wetland. Barefoot Resort & Golf's Dye Course is situated next to the pristine white sands of the Carolina Bays, providing a stark contrast to the lush native grasses that cover the course. The layout stretches to a monstrous 7,343 yards from the back tees, and Dye incorporated the treacherous hazards that typically characterize his designs. But there are four sets of tees that make this Myrtle Beach favorite accessible to all handicaps.

Royal American Links is marketed as "central Ohio's best-kept secret" for a reason. It's a place so hard to find that pro shop workers regularly take calls from lost golfers looking for directions.
