McDonald's LPGA Championship at Bulle Rock Golf Course

On Sunday, a relative unknown, Anna Nordqvist, captured her first major LPGA win Sunday at the 2009 McDonald's LPGA Championship at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Md.

For the consecutive year, a rookie won the tournament. Last year Yani Tseng won, she tied for 23rd in this year's competition.

In just her fifth professional tournament, Nordqvist shot an impressive 66 on Thursday and then took the lead after the second round on Friday. She birdied the last hole, finishing with 15 under.

Nordqvist beat the second-place winner, Lindsey Wright, by four shots. In-Kyung Kim, who won the State Farm Classic earlier this month, tied for 16th in this competition. Ji Yai Shin took third with 10 under.

Nordqvist's success has naturally induced comparisons to fellow Swedish golfer Annika Sorenstam, whose first LPGA Tour victory was also a major tournament, the U.S. Women's Open in 1996.
