BRASELTON, Ga. -- One hundred and forty-four of the world’s most accomplished junior golfers will gather for the 30th-annual Rolex Tournament of Champions July 2-6, 2007. The 72-hole stroke play event will be held at The Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
The Rolex Tournament of Champions is one of 12 AJGA Invitationals on the American Junior Golf Association’s schedule and is the most prestigious, longest-running tournament in the Association’s history.
The Boys Division is comprised of 20 Rolex Junior All-Americans, including first-team members Peter Uihlein of Bradenton, Fla., and Andrew Yun of Tacoma, Wash. Uihlein won the first boys-only Invitational of the year, the FootJoy Boys Invitational, in June. Second-team Rolex Junior All-American members in the field include Cody Gribble of Dallas, Mu Hu of Shen Zhen, China, Josh Jones of The Colony, Texas, Sihwan Kim of Buena Park, Calif., and Gregor Main of Danville, Calif. Gribble looks to capture his second AJGA title of 2007 after winning the Wellstone Communities Junior at Craig Ranch by eight strokes.
Other notables in the field include 2006 Polo Golf Junior Classic champion Morgan Hoffmann of Saddlebrook, N.J., honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American Spencer Cole of Greer, S.C., who won the 2007 Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan in April, and honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American Sang Yi of Carrollton, Texas, who took first place at the PING Junior at The Woodlands in April.
Thirty-four Rolex Junior All-Americans headline the Girls Division. Second-team Rolex Junior All-American Kimberly Kim of Pahoa, Hawaii, the reigning U.S. Women’s Amateur champion, will look to improve upon her fifth-place finish in 2006. Kim has had a strong start to the 2007 season, winning the ReBath Heather Farr Classic in April and capturing her first AJGA Invitational title at the Thunderbird International Junior in May.
Also competing will be first-team Rolex Junior All-American Taylore Karle of Scottsdale, Ariz. Karle has six career AJGA victories and already notched three top-five finishes in 2007. Other first-team members in the tournament field include Sydney Burlison of Salinas, Calif., Mina Harigae of Monterey, Calif., Stephanie Kono of Honolulu, sisters Isabelle and Marika Lendl of Bradenton, Lisa McCloskey of Montgomery, Texas, and Jenny Shin of Torrance, Calif.
Second-team Rolex Junior All-American Jane Rah of Torrance, will look to capture her second Invitational title of the year. Rah won the Rolex Girls Junior Championship in June and also took first place at the PING Junior at The Woodlands in April. Rachel Morris of Carlsbad, Calif., an honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American and winner of the 2007 Wellstone Communities Junior at Craig Ranch, and Alexis Thompson, who became the second-youngest champion in AJGA history when she won the 2007 Aldila Junior Classic in April, are also competing.
The Rolex Tournament of Champions is one of 80 events the AJGA will conduct in 2007. This year, AJGA tournaments
will take place in more than 25 states.
