COPPEROPOLIS, Calif. – Dec. 15, 2004 – Saddle Creek Resort – a gated, 900-acre Castle & Cooke community in the scenic California Foothills – has been named to Golfweek’s prestigious list of “America’s Best Residential Golf Courses.”
In ranking Saddle Creek No. 39 on this top-100 listing, Golfweek heralded the course’s relationship to the overall community plan, the variety, conditioning and playability of the layout, and “how pleasing and interesting the course is as an experience.” Saddle Creek’s place on the list puts it ahead of esteemed residential courses Reynolds Plantation, PGA West, Isleworth, Hammock Dunes, Colleton River and others.
“Saddle Creek is truly special and to be recognized in this manner is a wonderful honor for our golf course and our community,” says Dave Haley, Vice President, Division Manager, directing Castle & Cooke’s development in the California Foothills. “Residents, members and guests can take pride in knowing their experiences have been heralded nationwide.”
Designed by Carter Moorish and Tad Buchanan, the eight-year-old course is framed by the Sierra Mountains and challenges players of all levels with five sets of tees, more than 100 crystal white sand bunkers and handful of shimmering lakes. To create an atmosphere of tranquility and isolation, Morrish and Buchanan devised a routing in which no two holes run parallel to each other. Saddle Creek’s thoughtful design and sublime conditioning have led to numerous national accolades, such as being rated the ninth best public-access course in the state by Golfweek, and one of the top four semi-private courses in Northern California by Golf Today.
Not to be overlooked, Saddle Creek’s diverse and award-winning real estate blends resort and residential atmospheres. Residential opportunities from the low $400s to more than $1 million, picturesque homes serve as countryside retreats. Boasting views of lakes and forested hills, they serve as the ideal escape from the Bay Area, which is roughly two hours away.
Residents and guests of Saddle Creek can also enjoy the beauty of nature thanks to miles of hiking trails perfect for skiing, snowmobiling and mountain biking, an equestrian center and the nearby Lake Tulloch. Also of interest are the sports club featuring a 3,000-square-foot workout facility, yoga and aerobic classes, a large pool, kids’ wading pool and a Jacuzzi spa. The Saddle Creek Lodge features a fully-stocked bar, stunning vistas and the food of Executive Chef Richard Whipple at the acclaimed Copper Grille.
Currently in development, the town of Copper will bring an exciting new dimension to Calaveras County with its traditional town square, specialty shops, boutiques art galleries and restaurants.
