Lombardo, Erdman and Graham tie at qualifier for SAP Junior

AVON, Ohio -- Sean Michael Lombardo of Dublin, Ohio, Ian Erdman of Rocky River, Ohio, and David Graham of Cincinnati, Ohio, tied for medalist honors after carding even-par 72s in the Srixon Qualifier for the SAP Junior Open Sunday in the Boys Division at the Red Tail Golf Club. Jamie Lavin of Deerfield, Ill., shot a 3-over-par 75 in the Girls Division to take home medalist honors.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the SAP Junior Open Srixon Qualifier was an 18-hole shotgun held at Red Tail Golf Club. The tournament field consisted of 100 players, 85 boys and 15 girls, from nine states and one foreign country. The Boys Division was played at 6,758 yards and the Girls Division at 5,967 yards.

Lombardo said he had a great short game, hitting the ball well and carding mostly pars and one birdie.

“The course was a lot of fun today,” Lombardo said. “This course has great greens and was in great condition to play on.”

Erdman said he struggled a little with a triple bogey on No. 6, but still played strong recording six birdies on Nos. 2, 3, 9, 10, 12, and 18. Graham had a solid game as well, recording one birdie, one bogey and 16 pars to earn medalist honors.

Also qualifying in the Boys Division were John Beringer of Loveland, Ohio, Brooks Price of Worthington, Ohio, Kurtis Kincade of Toledo, Ohio, Michael Sorenson of Hartland, Wis., Dillon Klein of Delphos, Ohio, Drew Barnard of Greenwood, Ind., Alex Bennett of Rochester, Mich., Jared Dalga of Grand Rapids, Mich., Sean Keating of Cincinnati, Ohio, Scott Blosser of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Ryan Menafee of Bexley, Ohio, Jeffery Steiger of Stow, Ohio, Jordan Higgins of Vandalia, Ohio, and Zachary Bates of Chagrin Falls, Ohio.

Lombardo, Beringer, Price and Kincade all opted to take one AJGA Tournament Exemption in lieu of playing in this week’s event.

Lavin said she hit a lot of fairways and greens, but gives credit to her short game. She had four par putts fewer than 10 feet.

“I felt comfortable about my game,” Lavin said. “I was good at adding the yardages and paying attention to the fairways because the course was like a maze.”

In the Girls Division qualifiers were Shannon Warner of Livonia, Mich., Emily Riddle of St. Marys, Pa., and Samantha Swinehart of Lancaster, Ohio.

Lavin and Warner elected to opt out and take one AJGA Tournament Exemption in lieu of playing in this week’s event.
