Alec Pettigrew launches putter maker Groove Equipment Limited

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Former CEO of Yes! Golf Asia Pacific and entrepreneur, Alec Pettigrew has launched a new putter company, and unveiled what recent independent studies indicate could be the best performing line of putters on the market. Pettigrew’s Groove Equipment Limited (GEL) is poised to have an immediate impact on the U.S. golf market with GEL’s inaugural line of grooved putters. Unlike industry counterparts, GEL putters feature horizontal grooves milled onto a much softer aluminum insert. The result is a putter that starts the ball rolling faster, straighter and offers unparalleled feel.

Recent unbiased testing conducted by Quintic Consultancy Ltd. to analyze a putter’s ability to impart forward roll on a ball has shown that GEL putters outperformed the competition by an average of 14%. The head-to-head comparison tested three GEL putters against models from Titleist, Ping, Odyssey, Taylor Made and Yes! Two GEL models finished 1st & 2nd respectively and generated 20% greater forward roll when compared to the competition.

“In general, a putt is more susceptible to stray off-target during the skid, while a rolling putt will hold its intended line and improve the chances of going in the hole,” said Alec Pettigrew CEO of Groove Equipment LTD. “Additionally, because the ball comes off the face straighter and with more forward roll it is easier to control distance, one of the leading factors in three-putting.”

GEL has introduced six innovative models at the 2007 PGA Show spanning decades of putter design with everything from traditional blade style putters to cutting-edge designs. Several models are available in ladies and left handed, and each GEL putter comes standard with a specially designed WINN grip. The MSRP for all GEL models in the United States is $165.

“When a touring pro strikes a putt, the ball appears to hug the green and hold a tight line to the cup. It is the result of a finely tuned putting stroke which produces a forward roll early in the putt and something most recreational golfers lack,” added Pettigrew. “Our grooved putters will help golfers of all abilities get the ball rolling straighter and with a truer roll.”

Different Than Irons
Unlike grooves on an iron which impart backspin on a ball at impact, grooves on a putter produce the opposite effect and help generate a more immediate forward roll. GEL has set out to establish a new standard in putter technology and educate golfers everywhere that there is an easy solution to many of their putting woes. Every GEL model has been designed with input from Tour professionals providing golfers with a beautifully balanced and weighted head.

The complete line of GEL putters can be found at the Groove Equipment LTD booth during the 2007 PGA show. Visit booth # 3693, try one for yourself and take the first step towards improving your putting.
