Genworth Financial reports success of BMW fundraising activity

Genworth Financial’s innovative fundraising activity at The BMW PGA Championship raised a total of £13,082 for its selected charity partners Habitat for Humanity and GOLFAID.

Having recently joined The European Tour as the Official Sponsor of The European Tour Statistics, Genworth Financial created a unique way to raise money for their selected charity partners at Wentworth Club last week.

For every single-putt made by professionals participating in the BMW PGA Championship, Genworth donated £2 to a fund for Habitat for Humanity and GOLFAID.

On top of the professional aspect to the fundraiser, Genworth Financial also gave golf fans the chance to raise money by single-putting at their specially constructed green at the Genworth Financial Exhibition Unit in the BMW PGA Championship Tented Village.

Former European Tour professional Mark Roe, the Acting Chairman of GOLFAID, got the charity initiative off to a flying start by holing the opening putt at Genworth’s Exhibition, a stroke which raised £5000.

A further £2962 was raised by the golfing public, with the 156 professionals that competed in the tournament sharing 2560 single-putts worth £5120.

Bob Brannock, President and Chief Executive Officer of Genworth Financial’s operations in Europe and Canada, said: “The Putts for Charity event links our new relationship with The European Tour to our corporate value ‘Heart’, in which we reach out and give back to deserving causes and have fun along the way. The £13,082 raised is a terrific result for our charity partners Habitat for Humanity and GOLFAID. We’re glad to be making a difference for these two worthy causes.”

Speaking on behalf of GOLFAID, Mark Roe said: “We have to give immense thanks and credit to Genworth Financial for launching this joint charity venture between Habitat for Humanity and GOLFAID. To raise £13,082 at the BMW PGA Championship is a fantastic sum of money and we hope that we can work together with Genworth Financial in the future to raise even more funds for worthwhile causes.”

Ian Walkden, National Director of Habitat for Humanity, said: “Our thanks go to Genworth Financial for giving us such a wonderful platform to honour some of our most committed supporters and to raise much needed funds. Many of our guests have given Habitat for Humanity the most precious of gifts – their time. In doing so they have left a little piece of their heart in the communities they worked in and now carry the fight against poverty housing with them wherever they go.”
