Twin Bridges Golf Club earns national recognition

GADSDEN, Ala. (December 12, 2004) – Twin Bridges Golf Club -- Gadsden's newest and finest public golf facility -- today announces it has been named to Golf Digest’s elite, annual list of “America’s Best-New Courses.”

This is the 22nd consecutive year that Golf Digest has unveiled its selections of America’s Best New Courses. This latest ranking appears in the January 2005 issue (on newsstands December 14). Nearly 150 new golf courses nationwide were nominated for this year’s ranking. Twin Bridges was rated No. 9 in the Best New Affordable Public category.

Golf Digest's survey covers three categories of U.S. Courses: Private, Affordable Public (for those with green fees of $50 or less) and Upscale Public (for those with green fees in excess of $50). Ten courses are included in each category.

Golf Digest has conducted America’s Best New Courses rankings since 1982. Its panel of 800 low-handicap male and female golfers played and evaluated (at their own expense) nominated golf courses that opened between May 1, 2003 and April 30, 2004.

“It is an honor for Twin Bridges Golf Club to be awarded this objective, third party distinction by one of the world’s foremost golf publications,” says Gadsden Mayor Steve Means. “We set out to create a golf course and overall environment the citizens of Gadsden and residents of Alabama could be proud of, and it is gratifying to meet those lofty goals.”

Golf courses were rated on shot values, design variety, memorability, resistance to scoring and aesthetics. Bonus points were awarded to courses that allow walking. The average scores for each criterion were combined and totaled to determine the winners.

Twin Bridges was designed by golf course architect Gene Bates -- one of America’s hottest architects over the past two years. In addition to Twin Bridges being honored in this latest edition of Golf Digest’s “America’s Best New Courses”, his design of Circling Raven Golf Club in Worley, Idaho was rated No. 7 in the Best New Upscale Public category.

Owned by the City of Gadsden, Twin Bridges is a par 72, 6,800-yard, 18-hole layout that challenges and appeals to golfers of all skill levels. The course features finely manicured Bermuda fairways, bent grass greens, and strategically placed bunkers all set along the scenic Coosa Bend River.
