DeFeet socks, known as a premiere cycling and running brand, has made a grand entrance into the golf market.
A little over a year ago, a company called Global Tour Golf became the exclusive distributor of the DeFeet golf brand and began marketing logoed socks to top resorts – including Torrey Pines, Bandon Dunes and Greenbrier Country Club – with great success. Pebble Beach, one of the first resorts to sign on, started with two different logoed SKUs. Now the resort carries 19.
“The idea was to get our product on people’s feet, and the word of mouth would spread from there,” said Craig Pollard, president of Global Tour Golf. Now, the company has about 100 accounts for its custom-logoed product, and 200 more for its new line of un-logoed performance socks.
DeFeet socks are performance-oriented, offering moisture management as well as an anti-bacterial lining. Men’s models include low cuff, quarter cuff and full-length and come in black or white, while women’s models are available in fashion colors like pink, green and blue. The company also gives shops a choice of a 24-, 48- and 144-piece display units.
“You look at golf shirts, hats, visors, other products – it’s all about performance,” Pollard says. “We were happy to jump on that wave. The timing was good.”
