GCSA members report support of Play Golf America Day in CA

California Golf Course Superintendents Association members distributed free ball mark repair tools at a recent Play Golf America Day held at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, Calif.

In addition to receiving a repair tool courtesy of the GCSA of Northern California, participants were able to observe proper ball mark repair techniques demonstrated by local course superintendents. Joining the GCSANC in this community outreach effort were representatives from the Sierra Nevada and Central California chapters of GCSAA.

Members from the California Golf Course Superintendents Association (CGCSA) also distributed literature highlighting the various career benefits of becoming a turfgrass professional.

The Third Annual Play Golf America Day at Haggin Oaks GC attracted hundreds of participants, both new and returning golfers from various regions in Northern California. Attendees were offered free golf instruction, a golf club courtesy of Wilson Golf and an opportunity for a nine-hole golf experience.

"Play Golf America Day was an excellent venue to demonstrate ball mark repair techniques," stated GCSANC Member Jim Irvine. "Attendees seemed genuinely interested in learning how to successfully repair a ball mark, especially those new to the game."

The GCSANC Ball Mark Repair Distribution Program is an ongoing education initiative and has been recognized as a best practice within the golf industry. In addition to Play Golf America Day, the repair tools bearing the GCSANC association logo have been distributed at Link Up to Golf classes, Welcome to Golf Day, EWGA Girl’s Junior Golf events, throughout Women’s Golf Week and during the Charles Schwab Cup Championship (Champions Tour) held in October at Sonoma Golf Club.
