LOS ANGELES -- USA Cares, ( www.usacares.us ) a world wide charitable
organization serving military service members and their families will be the beneficiary
of a golf scramble to be held November 12th at the beautiful MountainGate Country Club
in Los Angeles. Patrick Shipstead and Michael Geibelson, two partners in Robins,
Kaplan, Miller and Ciresi L.L.P.’s Los Angeles office, have taken the lead in hosting
the tournament, which will be fully underwritten by their firm. The event festivities will
include dinner at the MountainGate clubhouse, with a featured guest speaker and silent
auction.
Shipstead, who is also a member of USA Cares’ Board of Directors and the father of an
Air Force pilot, says, “While the war in Iraq has become very controversial, it is
important to remember that it is America’s sons and daughters who are serving there
and elsewhere at the behest of our government. They don’t get to pick their wars, but
they and their families must bear a disproportionate burden. Supporting them should be
a cause we can all get behind. I have been very impressed with USA Cares’ success
and professionalism in delivering that support to the families most in need in tangible,
critical ways.”
Since it’s humble beginning in March of 2003, USA Cares, with headquarters located
just outside Fort Knox, Kentucky, has received requests from over 5,000 service
members and families and assisted with more than $3M in organizational and found
resources. USA Cares, in partnership with The Homeowners Preservation Foundation,
has also saved 180 military homes from foreclosure in 34 states across the nation, 4 of
those in various California locations. USA Cares has assisted hundreds of California
service members and their families.
Hugh Dukes, Executive Director for USA Cares, says, “California military families have
long been part of our effort, as have those from other parts of the country. Across the
nation, National Guard, Reserves, and regular forces are bearing the burden of
extended troop deployments.” Dukes continues, “This year we are looking to expand
our organizational presence in California and the Robins, Kaplan Tournament is a very
important part of that effort, as well as, hopefully, broadening our financial base of
support.” Dukes added, “We’re also very proud to have the support of the California
Community Foundation which has provided USA Cares with critical financial resources
through its generous grants.”
Organizations, companies and individuals are encouraged to call for more information
on participating in the tournament or providing other support. Contact Michael
