MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- It was lucky number 13 for CHAMP this weekend on the PGA Tour, capturing its 13th PGA win this season, and then doubling its weekend winnings with an LGPA Championship.
At the PGA Tour’s Crowne Plaza Invitational, the South African continued his strong 2007 season winning the title on the first playoff hole as he birdied a 15 foot putt. The winner chose CHAMP Cermec metal spikes, the ultimate in metal spike technology, for his 4th career PGA Tour win. The winner needed the stability provided by CHAMP’s Cermec spike throughout a rainy weekend including a rain delayed Sunday, where he shot a 62, one stroke off the course record. In total, CHAMP spikes were on nearly half of the top ten finishers and 73% of the golfers who chose CHAMP, switched over from their initial spike.
Over on the LPGA Tour, over half the field, including the first-time winner, chose CHAMP at the Corning Country Club Classic. The champion became the fifth first-time winner this season and finished a remarkable -20 under par, three strokes ahead of her closest competitors. Almost 60% of the field wore CHAMP and over 80% who selected CHAMP, switched from their original spike. The champion chose the #1 spike on Tour, the Scorpion Stinger, which features the patented “C” wear indicator that shows golfers when it is time to change their spikes.
“The numbers show which spike the players want to wear,” said Harris MacNeill, President, CHAMP Spikes. “For another weekend, we had the winners on both the PGA and LPGA Tours but just as impressive are the high numbers of players switching to CHAMP Spikes. We are proud that we make so many different types of spikes to reflect the needs of different golfers in different situations.”
