New GolfStyles Boston edition debuts in March 2005

NORTH YARMOUTH, ME. – Dec. 13, 2004 – New England Journal of Golf, New England’s premier golf magazine, has joined the GolfStyles family of regional golf publications and will take on a new name in 2005: GolfStyles Boston.

The change, which was announced by GolfStyles Publisher Michael Keating, will give readers expanded coverage of golf and golfers’ lifestyle-related topics in New England and beyond, while increasing the magazine’s guaranteed and audited circulation to 45,000 copies per issue and its frequency to nine issues per year.

“It’s win-win for both consumers and advertisers,” said Keating, whose GolfStyles concept grew out of his 10 years at the helm of the nation’s most successful regional golf title, Washington Golf Monthly. “With more issues per year, readers will get even more of the excellent golf coverage that they’ve always enjoyed with New England Journal of Golf. Meanwhile, advertisers will instantly be able to reach 50% more readers per issue — with no increase in cost. Everyone’s looking for more marketing depth these days, and GolfStyles Boston can provide layered marketing from print to Internet to direct mail to sponsorships.”

New England Journal of Golf’s publisher and editor-in-chief David DeSmith will join the new magazine as associate publisher and editor with the goal of maintaining the high journalistic standards readers came to expect from NEJG.

“It’s a great step forward,” DeSmith said, “And with the help of many of the same top-notch writers and photographers who helped make NEJG such a standout publication, we’ll continue to cover golf in New England like nobody else. The new magazine may be called GolfStyles Boston, but rest assured, we’ll continue to cover the whole New England golf scene issue to issue. What’s more, since the new magazine will be distributed all over New England — free of charge — more people than ever will be able to enjoy the stories and golf news that we’ll publish. Bottom line — New England’s best-ever golf magazine just got even better.”

Also joining the staff at GolfStyles Boston will be David Ekelund, New England Journal of Golf’s Director of Sales and Business Development. Ekelund will keep his same title, and continue to be responsible for generating marketing and sales opportunities for the new magazine’s advertising and marketing partners.

Ekelund will also gain the additional title of Director of Business Development for The Caribbean. “Being part of the GolfStyles family will give GolfStyles Boston’s advertisers a wealth of new opportunities,” Ekelund said. “Whether they’re looking to reach our Boston audience, the greater New England region, or our many readers outside the immediate six-state area, GolfStyles Boston will be positioned to affordably and efficiently do the job for them. Plus, advertisers will also have the opportunity to enjoy deep discounts on any print advertising they wish to place in the other GolfStyles titles. Now that we’re part of the GolfSyles family, our advertisers are, too. It’s great for us and great for them.”

GolfStyles Boston magazine will be published eight times in 2005 — in March, April, May, June, August, September, October, November — and nine times in 2006, beginning in January. The magazine will feature news and notes from all six New England states, augmented by insightful feature stories, course reviews, interviews, profiles, golf travel info, local tournament coverage, and much more. A new website, www.golfstyles.net, will provide yet another way for readers to enjoy this coverage. The site will also offer advertisers an additional outlet for their marketing messages.

In addition to Boston, regional GolfStyles magazines will also be published and distributed in Washington, D.C., New Jersey, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Ohio.

Total guaranteed circulation for the six regional titles will be 310,000, with 175,000 going to individual request subscribers, 65,000 to country clubs and pro shops, 30,000 to upscale resorts, 20,000 to business leaders and associations, and 20,000 to tournaments and events. In addition, the GolfStyles Boston title will reach an additional 50,000 readers through its in-flight airline seat-back placements.
